About Brett & Seth

Brett Glass

Brett’s journey with horses began at just 10 years old, riding an AQHA gelding named Page Boy, who later became the cornerstone of his early lesson program. Soon after, Brett purchased Seekers Grey Ghost as his jumper—a horse who not only shaped his riding career but also went on to play a key role in teaching countless students before retiring in the summer of 2025.

In 2009, Brett’s family purchased their first farm in Troutville, Virginia, where they built a barn, arena, and fencing from the ground up. This property became the foundation for both his riding career and the growth of his lesson program for many years.

Along the way, Brett gained valuable experience working under respected professionals in both Virginia and Tennessee, while continuing to develop his own program. After returning to Virginia in 2019, he relaunched his training and lesson business part-time, transitioning to a full-time operation in 2023.

Since then, the program has grown significantly—now proudly including the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association team at Roanoke College, as well as both upper and lower Interscholastic Equestrian Association teams.

In May 2025, Brett relocated the program to Ardmore, marking a period of tremendous expansion. What began as a small operation of 11 horses has grown into a thriving program of 35 horses across two properties. Today, the original family farm serves as a retirement facility, while the primary training and lesson program operates out of Ardmore, currently home to 29 horses.

At the heart of it all, Brett is deeply committed to creating a supportive, professional environment where both horses and riders can develop, compete, and thrive—no matter where they are in their journey.

Seth Shifflett

As a fourth-generation horseman and trainer, Seth Shifflett’s life and career have been deeply rooted in the equestrian industry from the very beginning. He has been riding for as long as he can remember, getting his start on an AQHA mare named Monday Morning Mamba. It was through her that he developed a strong foundation in Western Pleasure, along with a lasting passion for horsemanship and a genuine connection to the horse—principles that continue to shape his training philosophy today.

Recognizing his dedication early on, Seth’s family supported his growth by investing in horses suited to each stage of his development. This foundation opened the door to opportunities across multiple disciplines, allowing him to build a diverse and well-rounded skill set. Before establishing his own program, Seth worked extensively with respected trainers on the AQHA circuit, gaining hands-on experience in reining, ranch work, hunter under saddle, and hunter jumpers.

In addition to developing his independent program, Seth further refined his horsemanship while working at Washington & Lee University as a stable hand. There, he rode and managed horses daily under the guidance of accomplished professionals, strengthening his work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to high standards of care and training.

In 2020, Seth officially launched Double S Performance Horses LLC, focusing on training, lessons, and sales. His program spans both Western and English disciplines, including Western Pleasure, Mounted Shooting, Hunter Under Saddle, Ranch, and Hunter Jumpers. Known for developing versatile horses and riders, Seth emphasizes strong fundamentals, consistency, and long-term success.

Throughout his career, Seth has remained committed to continuous learning and growth. He believes in keeping both horse and rider mentally engaged, avoiding burnout, and evolving alongside the industry by staying active across multiple disciplines. This approach allows him to bring a thoughtful, balanced perspective to every horse and client he works with.

In 2025, Seth met his partner, Brett Glass, and the two made the decision to combine their programs. Since then, they have built a collaborative operation focused on growth, quality, and a shared vision for the future.
